Nestled in a vegetated area in Mākaha, Dalani Tanahy's workspace is adorned with photographs and Hawaiian barkcloth. She grows wauke, or paper mulberry trees, not far from her property to make kapa. In June, Hawaiʻi will host the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture, drawing more than 2,200 delegates from at least 28 Pacific countries and U.S. territories.
