Lua: The Hawaiian Martial Arts

Lua: The Hawaiian Martial Arts

Learn about the art of lua, the ancient Hawaiian martial arts from ʻŌlohe lua Umi Kai, a master practitioner of the traditional Hawaiian martial arts and an ʻŌlohe lua of Pā Kuʻi a Lua.

Umi Kai is a respected cultural practitioner and artisan reknown for his work and those he does with his wife on Hawaiian implements, creating objects such as mea kaua or traditional Hawaiian weapons, makau (fishhooks), and more while utilizing natural Hawaiian materials and techniques to create them. This special presentation on the sacred art form of lua is seldom talked about and would be great for many wanting to learn more about the Hawaiian culture, or Hawaiian martial arts. This presentation will be followed by a Question and Answer Segment.
