Slide guitar master gathers his blues “brothers” for evening of Delta blues
Slide guitar master Rick Smith, his band the Trailer Park Romeos, and special guests Paul “Mojo” Gomes and Joe Green offer an evening of blues at HPR’s Atherton Studio on November 30th at 7:30 p.m. Smith promises music, audience participation, and an introduction to the Delta blues. Reservations may be made online at www.hprtickets.org or by calling the station (955-8821) during regular business hours. Tickets are $30 general, $25 for HPR members, and $15 for students with ID. The Atherton Studio is located at Hawaii Public Radio, 738 Kaheka Street.
A native of Charleston, South Carolina, and long-time North Shore resident, Smith learned to play the guitar at 14. He formed his first band and, by the time he was in 10th grade, they were performing in area clubs. His recording engineer career first took him to Los Angeles where he worked with many name recording artists at the legendary Record Plant Recording Studios. Since then he has also built a recording studio for local entertainer Al Harrington, managed LA’s Design FX Audio, and formed a series of bands on O‘ahu.
On November 30th at the Atherton, Smith will be on guitars and vocals, with Ian Chames (bass and background vocals) and Sean Harrison (guitar, hand percussion, background vocals). They will be joined by Paul “Mojo” Gomes on drums and blues singer Joe Green; the latter is also the owner of Surf n Sea, the surf and dive shop in Haleiwa.
